Studio Life

I am really excited for this show. Of course I get excited for every show, the dancers  work so hard and I'm always proud of them. But this show is a bit more special to me. This idea came to me right after I had Jazzie, my daughter, in January of 2011. Usually, when I get an idea for a show, I want to execute it right away. But I waited, knowing that for some reason, the timing wasn't right yet. Then in March of this year, I was on vacation with my family, and was praying about our next show. I felt the Lord's still small voice, say "Its time".
The story synopsis is about a Music Box Dancer, who has known nothing but the "box" her whole life. She begins to feel that she has a right to experience the outside world, so she decides to escape out of the box. Along her journey into the "real" world, she first encounters a very playful place. Ladybugs, dolls, cowgirls, and fairies greet her and invite her to play. But she wants to move on, continue to experience what the world has to offer. She heads towards the "dark" side of the world, even when one of the young children warn her not to.
Along the way, she sees some puppet hip hop dancers and some super cool boy breakdancers. Innocent enough, so she continues on. What awaits her is a group of bullies, who begin to heckle her and ultimately rob her of any self esteem she had. They point out her major flaw (I'll keep that a secret for now). She then cries out for help, wondering if her journey had indeed been a mistake.  A nerdy, overly optimistic sure of himself breakdancer enters the scene, and encourages her. He says she needs to go visit her "Toy maker".  Even though she has doubts, she follows the advice. Upon meeting her creator, toymaker, she finds that in fact, he created her perfect even with her flaw.  Now its up to her to make the decision; return to her Music Box, for which she was created, or stay in this world... come see what she chooses, June 30th, 2012, @ SHS auditorium 6:30pm Tickets go on sale June 18th. www.identitydance.com
